Philadelphia 76ers and okc thunder

Sixers make the splash they've been waiting for. Okc rebuilds around Westbrook and ibaka while free cap space.

Okc trade: Kevin durant

Sixers trade: their own first this year (top six), lakers pick next year (top three protected), Miami pick( top ten protected), and the okc pick returned to them.

Okc can't get a better offer of draft picks anywhere to rebuild/ retool with in such a short time (2 years only). Kevin durant looks like he's going to leave anyway so they capitalize on his value big time before he leaves. Four fairly high first is unheard of but it's fair value if durant a healthy

Sixers would do a ton of due diligences before doing this trade. got to make sure durant healthy first. Sixers would then have the asset to further make a run at a Leonard or butler in free agency while still have the cap space to sign them to the max.

Is this trade fair value for both teams?

big risk with KD's health, although every draft pick is a risk too. I like it for the most part if KD can stay healthy

16 May 2015 19:31:31
Their is not enough picks for sixers to have to land durant + he won't resign with garbage organization.

16 May 2015 20:10:38
Why would the thunder trade a top 3 player for 3 picks. 2 which are prob not lottery picks. And 1 that is prob 3-5? Makes no sense. They want actual players if they make a trade for Durant. Not the sixers idea of 'potential' future gambles.

Shizzee

So your saying we don't have the picks and he wouldn't resign here? I disagree on the picks. No one can offer a better package of draft picks. Boston is the only one close and all their picks are going to be late first due to the teams that that own those picks.

Who would give the thunder more for durant and not take any money back in return??

16 May 2015 20:30:05
shizzee. he said "Sixers' not knicks. nothing stinks more then that garden garbage. please!! maybe from a Spurs fan, but a knicks fan??
TreGib. love the idea How about giving okc the entire 2016 daft(Sixers#1, Laker#1, Heat#1, and OKC's own #1 back) plus Covington and Grant(2 up and coming young, athletic sf's) to fill in at SF this coming year. We keep our#1 this year and draft Russell. We have Saric coming next year, so its like having a#1 anyway. That gives OKC 4 number ones next year, Covington, and Grant for Durant?
sixers:
pg:Russell
sg:wroten
sf:Durant
pf:Noel
c:Embiid

16 May 2015 23:24:48
Maybe 2016 Sixers#1, Lakers#1, Heat#1, OKC#1 and choice of Covington or Grant for Durant. Can OKC get a better return? four #1's and a quality, young athletic sf signed to a team friendly contract

16 May 2015 23:28:44
Jvoug.

Thanks for the like on the trade. I don't think okc would go for the Sixers pick next year instead of the one this year. The one this year is a garrenteed nice player. Especially if we get a top two pick. I think the trade is built around that part of the trade. The picks next year are the unknown. They could be amazing. Or they could all be 20 plus( highly doubtful they are all that bad of picks though). I think okc would need the assurance they get that close to the top pick this year. Then they would use the space created by moving durant to sign a few of their own guys and possibly another guy.

Pizza

The thunder are very cap conscious. Durant for draft picks is not only cheap but give them incredible upside to build with. Or trade with later. Meanwhile they get a great young player this year and then a ton of future assets. Along with the cap space to sign their own guys back this year as well as another great player in free agency possibly as well. Either way they're better off then if they lose durant next year for nothing.

Good one jvoug! However, the sixers actually are that team that are worse. Not only do they never win. But you aren't marketable here in philly. As far as picks, the thunder want players and picks. Only the sixers give everything away for picks. If Durant was asked who he wants to play for, and you realistically think he will say philly over New York. You're sorely mistaken. Hate New York all you want. Players want to play there. I can't think of any player in nba history that was all about playing in Philly. New York is a big market. 2 years ago they were second in the east. And they actually spend to win. They have made bad decisions and Dolan is awful. But they keep trying, they have sexiness and appeal, and besides hanging your hat on your best player, a player that has been injuried all or most of his two seasons of playing above high school, the sixers have very. Very. Very. Little appeal. Try selling a superstar on going with unproven players and draft picks as opposed to history, much more money and notoriety. Should get ya far.

17 May 2015 00:19:44
Jvoug, he never said anything about signing in New York. Just not Philly. That was a rather sad comment on your part. Disagree with a trade. Made a valid reason. And your only response is we aren't the worst ever, you are!! That was cooooool

17 May 2015 00:47:34
Maybe next years Sixers#1, Lakers#1, Heat#1, and OKC#1 plus Covington OR Grant(Thunder choice) for Durant. That's four #1's and a quality young sf signed to a team friendly contract for 3 years. I don't see OKC getting a better deal.

17 May 2015 00:56:55
No need for sixers to make this trade. They can have a better overall team just by sticking with their picks. They need to find their own superstar in the draft. And that's what they will do.

17 May 2015 08:59:48
oh pizza pie. I knew that would get your panties in a bunch. shizzee is a knick guy, and he called philly a garbage organization. I simply responded. and it was just a small part of my response. look at the stuff you say, your amazingly hypocritical. last decade, sixers have more wins then the mighty knicks. and sixers have a much better foundation then NY has. good luck with iaiah back in the house. what a joke

17 May 2015 14:43:27
I agree with JVoug. Pizza wears panties. Oh, I mean that the Sixers have a better foundation than the Knicks.

17 May 2015 16:05:13
Pizza is correct about a few things, he just went about it the wrong way.

New York is a more desirable destination in many ways. They might not of had the greatest recent history, however at the end of the day it's still New York. Marketable, in the spot light, wonderful city for a lot of players from small towns.

They are willing to pay & players want to be paid. They have Carmelo Anthony & decent team around him & have a high all mighty draft pick that Philly fans seem to value so high.

Not every pick a team owns turns out to be an All-Star, even if it is a top 5-7 pick. The issue here is that Philly fans for some reason think that all their picks are highly desirable because their high in their respective drafts.

Embiid isn't untouchable, would you throw him in the mix for Durant? Noel however does have a very high value & I can see why within the next few years he would be a solid defensive PF who players would want to play with. I can see why keeping him is a priority. Covington isn't of much value, no matter what potential Philly fans think he may have. On a good team with limited minutes, is he really going to make a massive difference? I wouldn't think so. I've not seen Grant play.

The only reason I can see '76ers Future Is Bright' is saying that Philly don't make this trade is two reasons; He knows the Thunder wouldn't accept OR that Durant wouldn't resign. On no planet is a collection of draft picks equal to/better than/higher value than Kevin Durant unless the projected top pick is going to be LBJ, KD level guaranteed talent.

17 May 2015 16:26:22
Pizza.

Allen iverson loved philly. He still does. Dr. j loves philly. And what durant really wants is to get paid and wins. Championship. He's getting older every day and he knows it. He also knows that Washington has a strong squad and has the cap space to sign him in 2016. It's also his home town. He doesn't hate okc but I think he realizes they let go of James harden when if they would of kept him they would of won multiple a championship. That's why he's leaving okc. He doesn't have the best chance to win there.

As far as the Sixers go there young and raw right now. But he major upside. Two huge big men and enough cap space to sign anyone. It'll only get better in 2016 when the cap skyrockets. I think the Sixers need durant to Interest a guy like butler or Leonard to sign here. Yes the Bulls and Spurs can Match but if the player really wants to leave I doubt they would try to keep him against his will.

So that's the idea I'm going for. A fair value trade to get durant here. And then sign a free agent to bolster the starting five. Then minimum guys. To fill out the roster.

17 May 2015 20:33:56
NY is a desirable place to play. But I'm not sure one of the reasons is Carmello Anthony. Having lived through the Iverson years, its nearly impossible to find the right guys to play along side a gunner. AI actually made the talented players around him worse and the less talented players around him better.

I know NY fans love Melo. I get that. He's very talented. But I wouldn't want to start my franchise with him then figure it out from there.

18 May 2015 14:43:38
Philly rich.

I agree on the Allen iverson comment. He was a ball hog no doubt about it. But surrounded by a defense first group of guys they went to the finals and at least challenged the lakers on that playoff run.

I think the days of having only one superstar and winning a championship are long gone though.

18 May 2015 19:15:12
Agreed. He made the less talented players around him better. But with only that one option, the Sixers couldn't win the big one.

The trend is to put 2-3 stars together as Miami did. Cleveland too. But the third stud better be a big man that doesn't mind his stats getting creamed. Happened to Love and I don't think he's happy. Bosh's stats also took a beating but that was AFTER he got a pretty big payday.
