Sixers offseason:
heard a couple reports that Brooks Lopez wants to reunite with Jason Kidd with the Bucks. Lopez can opt in for &17 mill with the Nets, so I assume it will take similar $$ to get him to come to the Bucks. That may put the Bucks in a tough position to match offers for Khris Middleton. I'm not big on the idea of signing FA's(especially since at the moment it is a tough sell for any bigtime FA to come to philly), but Middleton may be worth it. He's a 6'8" shooting guard, shot 47% from the field, 41% from 3's, and 85% from the line. he's a freak athlete, and he's only 23 years young. Would be a great fit with Russell or Wroten in the backcourt. Offer him $13-15 mill per.
PG: Russell
SG: Middleton
SF: Grant/Covington
PF: Noel
C: Embiid
Plus own #1, Lakers#1, Heat #1, OKC #1, and Dario Saric coming over next year.(that's 5 number one talents Hinkie can draft or package next year for higher picks or players).
Still building 90% of the team through the draft. Middleton just looks like an excellent young fit that with a little luck may be obtainable.

I think the Bucks can do both Lopez and Middleton as long as they take Lopez first then sign Middleton under the Bird rule, allowing them to go over the cap. I"m not certain of this.

You are correct.

I like the idea of this move but I don't think Middleton is worth it at this time. 13 to 15 million and you don't even know if embiid or third pick can play yet. I think you have to wait unless it's a can't miss player in free agency.

tregib. I think "cant miss players" very rarely sign with a rebuilding franchise. To get out of perennial "rebuild mode" you have to take an occasional chance in free agency but still build mostly through the draft I think Middleton fills need at SG, is 23, shoots great, very athletic, and already is a good player, with the potential to be even better. Maybe worth overpaying a bit, especially with the new cap right around the corner? I think its a gamble, but a calculated gamble with some, but little risk, not a "Bynum".

Tre- you make a good point. Plus, picking up a big money guy is sure to get in the way of the development of some of the young guys.

Maybe wait on that free agent and use cap spsce to pick up one more salary dump and 1st rounder.

But you can't wait too long. Some of these high picks are going to chew into the cap when their contracts come up.

Jvoug.

Sixers can't pay for a below superstar level free agent right now. We can't clog up cap space for the future on a guy who may not even be in the starting five once we get good.

unless hinkie thinks he's a superstar who not being used correctly like the James harden deal it's pointless to sign a Lesser tire player to a max contract. In the long run that's just bad thinking. It's how the old Sixers thoughT and that will get you to the playoffs but nothing more.

They should make offers to the big free agents and pass on anything else until next year when you know more about the players you currently have.

TreGib,
I respect your opinion and insight on the sixers. I think now is the prime time to get a guy like Middleton. He just turned 23, has a huge upside, is on the verge of stardom, and could be the kind of guy that sends a message to the bigtime free agents that philly is on the rise! I think the "old sixer way" would be signing a vet already in his prime to a max deal, then not having the players or financial flexibility to get past the first round of the playoffs. This signing is much different. i'm all for building through the draft, but I got to believe hinkie knows you have to use all avenues to the best of your ability in a financially smart way. I think Middleton will bring way more positives to the sixers future then negatives.
