Sixers-OKC
OKC just drafted another PG, making DJ Augustin very expendable.
Sixers sends to OKC: a single 2nd round pick
OKC sends to Sixers: DJ Augustin, Steve Novak. Novak gets immediately waived.
Sixers get a PG to get them through to next year's draft. Can still trade him late in the year to a contender.
OKC gets rid of $6m in contracts and two players that are not of any significance to their success.

So why would Sixers want to do that. It's not much at all. Not much reason for them to even give up a. Single second rounder there.

Why does Philly need an okay backup point to "get them through"? Doubt they want to give up a pick for a stopgap to win a few more games.

Make the 2nd rd pick protected or just trade the rights to that guy the 76ers drafted 60th

Why would Sixers do that? The kid may turn out to be a player. He could be a backup PG next year. And he probably won't be an embarrassment. I can't stand to watch Canaan play another second.
I think the Sixers want to compete this year. Maybe get to 30 wins. That's still a top 10 pick with 3 in the bank. They have to start putting a roster on the court to compete, not just a roster to put up minutes for 82 games. Sometimes these guys that are bench fodder just need a chance. Sometimes they're just too young when they come out.
So why not?
