When melo was a free agent, he had teams like the lakers rockets Knicks Bulls going after him. So let's do a rockets trade for him
Rockets trade ariza Lawson and McDaniels
Knicks trade Melo
Knicks get a decent package for Melo. Phil Jackson liked ariza and Lawson when out of trouble is a good pg and mcdaniels has potential

Pg Beverly/terry
SG harden/Thornton
SF Melo/brewer
PF jones/capela
C howard/montejunais

Pg Lawson/grant
SG affalfo/Galloway
SF ariza/Williams
PF oquinn/porzingas
C Lopez/seraphin
Rockets have a big three
Knicks have a pretty good defensive team

Not bad. I don't think McDaniels can be traded. Not sure why but I looked at the Trade Machine and he couldn't be added.

Also, if I'm the Knicks I'd ask for Sam Dekker instead of McDaniels. Plus Houston just happens to own the Knicks 2nd rounder. I'd ask for that back plus a future 1st. Houston doesn't have a 1st this year so I'd ask for their 2018 pick.

I like it though. Carmello goes to a team that can win, with players he'd respect. Houston gets a flat out scorer that takes the pressure off Harden. The Knicks get 2 good players right now plus a young up and comer plus a future pick or two.

Yeah I forgot to note that mcdaniels and Lawson can't be trade till January so it can't happen till then. I was trying to have Beverly in the trade but salary doesn't work.
Dekker Lawson ariza capela and Knicks 2nd back for Melo
How about that

What they get is Ariza, same age, significantly less ability, Lawson, a guy with some serious personal issues and is a liability. And that would just ADD to the pg log jam. And then a second pick and a late 1st rounder?

No where near the return the knicks would need to consider trading a top 20 guy they have locked down.

Not enough for melo. They can do more

This all depends on perspective.

Pizza sees Melo as a huge asset. That's ok. That's his opinion.

I see Melo as a roadblock to rebuilding into a Championship caliber team. Just my point of view. I'd use Melo to clear cap space, get in a good player, get in a good young player, and get a couple draft picks. And I'd want to do it while still can play Melo and before he turns into Ryan Howard (Phils 1B) and becomes simply untradeable. (Its ok to let another team have a good year or two.)

Philly, the problem you have is your perspective in recent years. I live in philly as well, I see what the sports teams have gone through. There is NO reason to think melo is anything like howard. Melos production has not dropped in the least. In fact, minus this past year which was a largely strategic move to get the surgery mid season instead of waiting, the prior year. 77 games played, 27.4 pts, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assistsover 45% from the field, over 40% from 3. I know what you are saying, there's just no indication that Melo is having a drop like that.

The closest comparison I can see as far as game of a top tier player is somewhat like Dirk. Not identical, but similar. Dirk was averaging career highs into his mid 30s. Melo hasn't been and perhaps never was, an elite athlete. He is a Shooter, snags decent amount of rebounds. That doesn't just drop off.

And his health has been incredible minus last year, which wasnt a specific injury, it was maintinence surgery.

I get what you are saying, the problem is its just unfounded speculation at this point. that's all. Agree to disagree.

Ryan Howard has lost production and baseball is different and can send salary out with the player but I see where your going. Lawson would separate himself from the young grant and Calderon. Ariza was one of jacksons favorites.

There is EVERY reason to believe Carmello could turn out to be Ryan Howard. He has a huge contract and many years left on it. If the Knicks get two good years out of him, 1 average year out of him, and 1 lousy year out of him, they should consider trading him right now and starting fresh. Trade him while they're at the bottom and he still has good value to a team near the top. Let someone else have a couple good years then get stuck with the problems the last two years. He's going to be 34 years old making $27m. If they move him now they can have 3 years under their belt by then and be mediocre or better and on their way up. Instead they'll be mediocre or worse and stuck or even on their way down.

The Knicks are designed for mediocrity. That's the absolute worst place to be in the NBA.

Here's a question. let's say you're right and Carmelo is still a stud when he's 33. He can opt out of his last year and go FA. Do you resign him to a huger contract at that point or let him walk? That contract is a trap.

Melo Lopez for Ariza Howard

17 Sep 2015 21:44:03
Philly, that's why teams take a chance on investing in top tier players. Nothing you are saying is out of the realm of possibility, but then again, there's no evidence towards that. Howard tore his achilles and because he is just massive, he could never regain form. On top of which, he was ALWAYS a terrible hitter. The kid had a terrible batting average for his career, terrible onbase percentage, terrible strikeout ratio. he was of value becasue he hit homers and rbis, but the contract never fit him.

Melo has shown no sign of dipping in production. His game style is not a driver, its a shooter. Shooters can play at a high level into the mid 30s. There just isn't a reason to strongly believe he's done in 2 years.

His contract has an out clause, but what's wrong with that? If he opts out at the end as you say, as his production drops to average or below average, why would they resign? The knicks, while disfuctional in recent years to say the least, wouldn't be completely moronic in maxing a strongly declining player.

Assumption is, hell be averaging in the 20's for the remainder of his contract. He'll transition more to pf as he gets older, and his style of game is perfectly fine for his age.

19 Sep 2015 13:58:27
Pizza, his contract clause is that Melo has the option, not that the team has the option.

So if Melo blows he will opt in and take the money from the last year of his contract without performing up to that standard.

But if Melo is awesome, he'll opt out and move to a top team for tons of $.

If he stinks, he most certainly will not opt out, as you suggested. That decision would cost him millions upon millions.
