The next man to fall in Portland may be general manager Kevin Pritchard. The people who work at Vulcan Inc. are busy working behind the scenes again with owner Paul Allen's basketball operation, and those following the curious firing of vice president Tom Penn this week are looking at Pritchard wondering if his shelf life as the franchise Golden Boy is expiring. "They can't do Kevin in the middle of the season, but they can do a drive-by on someone close to him," said Warren LeGarie, the agent for Penn and Pritchard. "But guess who would be next?"
Chris Paul is making cuts again and may be nearing a return. After getting medically cleared to begin running last week, Paul is now cutting and moving lateral during his pregame workouts. Though there is no set target date on his return, Paul said he is getting closer toward returning to the lineup after requiring knee surgery on Feb. 4. Paul could return this Saturday against Utah or on Monday night at home against the Dallas Mavericks.
Monday could be shakeup day for the Cavaliers' roster. That's the day when the Cavs can begin negotiating with Zydrunas Ilgauskas about his possible return to the team. Ilgauskas, 34, indicated that was his intention through his agent, Herb Rudoy, on March 4, after his contract was bought out by the Washington Wizards. If the two sides reach a deal, it would likely affect one of three players on the roster - rookie guard Danny Green, second-year forward Darnell Jackson or point guard Sebastian Telfair.
Two more technicals and Dwight Howard will be sitting for a game. The ruling means that Howard remains precariously close to receiving a one-game suspension. League rules state that a player will receive an automatic one-game suspension once he accrues his 16th technical foul of the regular season and also receive additional one-game suspensions for every two technicals thereafter. A player's technical-foul count reverts to zero once the regular season ends.
