Raptors/Hawks/Mavericks/Nets

Raptors send out Siakam to Hawks
Raptors receive Hunter, Finney-Smith, 2 1sts from Hawks, 1 2nd from Dallas

Hawks send Hunter and 2 1sts to Raptors, Capela to Mavericks
Hawks receive Siakam

Mavericks S&T Wood (4 yrs/56.4M) to Nets, 2nd to Raptors
Mavericks receive Capela

Nets send Finney-Smith to Raptors
Nets receive Wood on S&T

Raptors get 2 rotation level players and 2 1sts and 1 second for the 2 time AllNBA Siakam.
Hawks get the guy they are said to have been aggressively persuing
Dallas gets to use Wood to bring in Capela and still stay just below the hard cap.
Nets do some roster balancing with trading a wing for a big.

So the Mavs get Capela for one 2nd rounder? Feels like they should be sending more.

2.) 17 Jul 2023 23:30:47
If the Nets want Wood they can just offer him the vet minimum.

3.) 18 Jul 2023 03:05:03
Mavs are hard capped because of Geant Williams S&T and currently only have $9 mil available cap space under the Hard Apron. You are adding $20 mil insalary that they do not have space for.

TOR-CHI

Siakam for deRozan and Dosunmu (S&T) 4 yrs/24M

Draft picks needed? Probably to Bulls if Siakam won't commit to resigning, and to Toronto if he does.

I think you could squeeze a little more value out of Chicago. The framework is good though.

2.) 11 Jul 2023 01:18:00
An aging Derozan doesn't seem like the direction Toronto would want to go in.

3.) 11 Jul 2023 03:37:44
@Nightcap - I'm thinking if they are trading Siakam and they've already lost Fred, it wouldn't hurt to have an adult in the room. I expect Thad and Otto are largely there waiting to see what trade they will be salary ballast in and I believe Thad was part of the old guys/ young guys chemistry issues. deRozan would be respected by the young guys and i think he'd make a good mentor for a couple of years. and the offense could get pretty ugly as Scotty and OG grow into their new roles. it would be good to have a gunslinger to give them reason to keep competing. I was thinking the same role if Kyle gets bought out in the Dame deal.

4.) 11 Jul 2023 18:16:10
Nothing wrong with having veterans and I certainly like Derozan, but if they're moving an asset like Siakam, I think they have to use the opportunity to address the backcourt with players who better fit the timeline of Barnes and OG.

Looking for trade ideas to bring Lonzo and LaMelo to Toronto to team up with Gradey.

masaidisciple

1.) 29 Jun 2023 01:28:26
Better get medical air transport to get Lonzo to Toronto.

2.) 29 Jun 2023 02:08:30
Barnes, OG, Boucher with maybe a first for Lamelo and Hayward?

Then Trent for Lonzo and a few seconds?

3.) 29 Jun 2023 03:05:05
can you imagine their father's volumetric outspeak if they are on the same team?

4.) 29 Jun 2023 10:47:52
Clearly you just want to throw something to pair the Balls with Dick?

draft day TOR-CHA-GSW

Toronto sends Siakam to CHA, 13th pick and Otto Porter Jr to GSW and gets back Hayward and 2nd pick from CHA

CHA sends 2 pick and Hayward to TOR and 27 pick (from Denver) to GSW and gets back Siakam and Kuminga

GSW sends Kuminga to CHA and gets back Otto Porter Jr, 13 pick and 27 pick

If it's true that Charlotte wants BI instead of Zion and NOP won't make that deal then Siakam should fits CHA's desires. GSW gets OPJ back for another run and 2 1st rounders to save some money at the end of the bench and develop.

Not bad, I don’t think Kuminga nets 2 1sts tho. I’d let Hornets keep 27.

I'm seeing lots of rumours about Ayton trades, but it was also rumoured that Beal insisted on it being Paul, not Ayton, to be sent back to the Wizards. If that's true then it would be unlikely that the Suns trade Ayton, at least until they see how it fits at the trade deadline. There might be a way for a sign and trade for Porzingas , but then it would be almost impossible for the Suns to stay under the hardcap.

Seeing lots of rumours suggesting Harden may sign with Houston in the summer. Your thoughts? Is this narrative being quietly pushed by Philly's office? Trying to avoid losing a draft pick for completing the deal they negotiated secretly last year?

masaidisciple

1.) 25 Feb 2023 08:52:27
isn't this Harden's management, who spread the rumors, trying to get a max deal from philly.

wonder what the odds are that the Nets sign Josh Primo to a minimum deal and hire Ime Udoka... then replace all the female staff with men.

Well, Udoka started with coaching in San Antonio.

I'm surprised to see all these Toronto depth charts with someone other than Scottie BArnes as the starting point guard. They drafted him as a point guard, and started him there every game FVV was injured last year. The plan has always been to develop him as a jumbo point guard and losing Fred in free agency just hastens that timeline.
If you look at the depth chart as

Barnes/ Shroeder/ Flynn
Trent Jr/ Dick/ Weiskamp
Anunoby/ McDaniels/ Porter Jr
Siakam/ Boucher/ Young
Poetl/ Achiuwa/ Koloko

you see the balance. i think raptors management is happy to go into the season with this rotation, with easily tradeable contracts at any level to accomodate a trade if they want to get stronger anywhere, or as opportunity presents. I think the work is done for the summer, unless Masai surprises again to get Harden or Lillard.

raptors are said to be willing to go to 130 for 4 years with a player option on the last. i'd be surprised if the opening offer was less than 3 years and 100M.

okay, i guess if I'm Masai I'd probably say yes to that deal lol.
maybe put nembhart in instead of theis for some homegrown talent for the raptors?
and speaking of canadian content, thank you to Fredman (and his Sacramento Kings) for allowing Rudi to coach Team Canada at the worlds this summer. I thought we'd likely lose Nick when he signed with Philly, but now we get Rudi in Canada and he can stay with Sacramento also.

Barnes played point guard in college. He was drafted as a point guard. It has always been Toronto's intention that he would be the future point guard. Last season when Fred was out, Barnes started at point guard. It floors me to keep reading these out of market experts say Toronto's roster has no balance. In management's mind the depth chart is Barnes, Schroeder, Flynn at point, Trent, Dick, Temple at the 2, Anunoby, McDaniels, Porter at the 3, Siakam, Boucher, Young at the 4 and Poeltl, Achiuwa, Koloko at the 5. Teams overpay guys all the time; particularly teams in markets that aren't traditional destinations for big name free agents. Toronto refused to overpay Fred because they were comfortable giving the keys to Scottie. Expect to see him listed as the starting point guard when the season opens, with Schroeder coming off the bench.

Welcome Jordi!
Happy to see a coach with the respect of NBA talent taking over for Nick Nurse. Guys who have made the commitment will want to stay.

OG has indicated he wants to extend once he's eligible in the fall. FVV wants to stay if Toronto will pay what he'd get in the open market; he likes it here but wants to be paid. Siakam extended. GTJ has yet to decide on opting out. Poetl wants to resign this summer as a free agent and was thrilled they traded for his bird rights. Talent tends to want to stay where they are appreciated and treated well, and management doesn't panic and change direction every 18 months. Toronto has been one of the NBA's winningest franchises since Masai took over, and players almost always resign when given the opportunity. Have to disagree with you on this one Fredman. Raptors are one of the quietest teams in the league in terms of front office rumours leaking, but I'm sure Masai has continued to look for a Kawhi for Demar deal, but haven't found one he likes yet.

I'd much rather they be frustrating to deal with than easy to fleece.
