Both the Lakers and the Kings are in big trouble.
The Lakers have an aging star, a probable stud PG in Russell, a young up and comer in Randle. And no draft choices and no ability to attract a stud FA.
The Kings have an unhappy, tempermental stud signed for 3 more years and they just destroyed their future to try to make him happy now. I don't think they have the ability to sign a stud FA either.
Both team will win probably less than 30 games in the very difficult West. That means the Lakers will most likely give their 1st rounder to the Sixers and the Kings might be forced to flip their first rounder with the Sixers.
Which leads to the problem in the NBA. Be worst or be first but don't be in the middle. The quicker the Lakers and Kings understand that, the better off they'll be.

It wouldn't surprise me if the lakers ended up trading Williams and bass at the deadline to get draft picks and try to keep there pick. Kings will win 40 games or more but still won't make the playoffs. Next year lakers have cap space to sign almost three max free agents which is more attracting than this year where you have Kobe three young players to build around (you forgot clarkson don't leave him out) the pitch this year was play with Kobe and with three young players but next year they have cap space to sign multiple free agents

Next year's FA class has 1 max contract worthy player- Kevin Durant. There's nobody else of the caliber.
As for your prediction that the Kings win 40+ games, they haven't won 40 games in a season since 2005. And if they do finish outside the top 10, the Bulls get their pick. Its not a pick swap; the Bulls have their pick Top 10 protected.
