Big trade with a lot of moving pieces, but it works salary wise and i think all 3 teams could be happy with it.

OKC get Ellington, Portis, Gibson, Ntlikina
NYK get Paul, Derozan, Muscala, Patton, 2 2nds via Thunder
SAS get Randle and Peyton

NYK roster now isn't doing anything and Knicks are frustrated. I feel like the Knicks are desperate enough to do this. They blow it up, but they keep Barrett and Morris who have been their best 2 players and add 2 big names to bring some hype in Paul and Derozan. They need help at PG desperately Paul helps. Paul and Derozan neither have high value so they don't have to give up a lot of value to get them. Almost all the players invovled in the trade has not done a lot this year. They lose several bigs so they get muscala and Patton to help keep depth and they get 2 2ndsfrom OKC for taking pauls contract. I was going to put Morris in the trade instead of Randle but they aren't using Randle right and Morris has been the better player for them. Paul eould be a good mentor for Barrett and DSJ we have seen how good of a mentor Paul has been for SGA and Bazley so far. A starting 5 of Paul/ Derozan/ Barret/ Morris/ Robinson could be good in the East.

SAS don't want to extend Derozan, this way they get a good younger cheaper guy in Randle, and they add Peyton. Peyton would add to their jam of guards, but with Randle on the team they could pair a guard and LA to bring back a pretty good return to fill some other team needs. They won't get a great return for Derozan in my opinion this is prob the best they can do.

OKC gets out of Paul and brings back a bunch of cheaper 2 year contracts which could be moved easier in the offseason when they r all going to turn into expireing deals. They don't need to win right now and none of the players they get back will really help them win. Ntlikina hasn't been what the Knicks hoped he would b, but Thunder could take a shot at him and hope they can do a better job with him.

By getting Paul, does that take drafting Anthony off tbe Knicks radar?

18 Nov 2019 19:06:08
That's actually a very good trade for all three teams.

Fredman they could still draft Anthony. After the draft Paul would only have 1 year left or 2 if he takes his player option on his contract. So they could keep Paul have him mentor Anthony for a year then if Paul accepts his PO just trade him. In Pauls last year when his contract is expiring a team wanting to win that could use PG help would b more willing to trade for him.

why would the knicks trade for paul, they are not competing for the playoffs let alone a championship.

18 Nov 2019 20:41:23
He is taking the option. There is zero reasons to turn down $40+ mil.

18 Nov 2019 21:46:00
Fredman if he is still on a losing team he could turn it down then go to a wining team if a ring is that important to him.

kobi Knicks want to compete for the playoffs. If this is the trade that happenes Paul and Derozan in the East would be enough to compete for playoffs. Just because knicks currently aren't a winning team doesn't mean they don't want to win they seem desperate to win right now.

You tell your wife you are turning down $40 mil to chase a ring and see what happens once you get home.

Knicks won't be competitive for three+ years regardless, so why not try something? As stated, in the weak East, Paul and DeRozan could sell seats and merchandise, while making a playoff run, which might even attract free agents. Obviously, they aren't run very well so I wouldn't rely on the draft. Free agents are the way to become relevant again.
