why boston does this:
I think Simmons is the missing piece for Boston. Both Tatum and J Brown would be better with a distributor and Brogdon is a pg that can play offball. And the celtics defense would be awesome. The could have four all defensive team players with Tatum-Brown-Smart and Simmons

Why the Nets do this:
They can use Horford's leadership, they can make another run with Irving and Durant and the philly and Boston picks give them assets to trade for another star. (D Mitchell, Beal,...)

With all the uncertainty I don't think you can make a trade for Simmons without being irresponsible. Nets take a big risk of selling him too cheap and not getting back enough for an asset they paid heavily for. Whoever takes him risks paying way too much if his back issues prevent him from being close to the player he used to be. Way too much risk for both sides for a deal to come together right now. Ben needs to show he can play and contribute.

@Gasupo, there's no way the Celtics want Simmons, who is a PG not a PF. Tatum is a PF not a SF. Smart is a PG not a SF. (You should know that)
The Celtics absolutely loves Horford, for exactly the same reasons you like him for The Nets.
This deal has zero chance of happening.

It's positionless basketball.
Brogdon can play off the ball, so Simmons can play Point forward
Brogdon, Brown and Tatum are all good shooters and he shouldn't spread the floor for Williams, like he should have done for Embiid

Tatum can play both power and small forward.
And Smart is the first defender and sixth man. He can play SF/ SG and PG and i think he could even play PF.
