With Whiteside expiring the blazers could sign Derozan outright for the same 1 year number or longer for less money and keep their others players so they have some depth at forward as well.

That’s not how the salary cap works Sheee. Portland won’t have much cap space (I believe they can open around 10-12 million at the most) .

I also don’t think Derozan opts out, in which case the only way to get him is via trade.

I’m just not a fan of adding Derozan to Portland. Another starter that isn’t a good defender is a bad idea. I’d rather keep the depth and give Trent the chance at SF and see how it goes.

Agree with BMiller. Sometimes the best thing for a team to do is nothing. Let the young players develop. Portland is a very good team when everyone is healthy, especially at home. The bubble is an anomaly. If Portland is healthy, I believe they are a top four team in the West. Run it back another year. Their window is still open.

Not the right move for Portland. Also they have the 16th pick, not the 14th. But, great to see someone use a trade exception in one of these trade ideas. Rare in this forum.

You can't use trade excepcion with other players.

Thanks for reminding me asdenam. But still interesting to see "trade exception" even mentioned on this forum. Also, just remembered that the TPE can still be used by over-the-cap teams, but not by hard-capped teams.
