Would Spurs offer 9 + Peoltl in a S&T for Ayton? That might entice the Suns enough not to match a max offer while still getting a solid starting center

Suns look to draft TyTy Washington @9

CP3/Washington
Booker/Shamet
Bridges/Johnson
Crowder/Saric
Peoltl/McGee

Agree4 Disagree2

Dyson Daniels would also be an intriguing player for the Suns to take @9, I've seen him starting to get top 10 buzz.

don't Spurs got cap space? they can just throw money at a center like bamba or someone else.

I don’t rly see Bamba making the Spurs better. They pretty much have their wings of the future set with Murray Johnson Vassell and Primo.

There’s not rly much options to upgrade in the front court with the 9th pick for them after Duren (who I see going 7th atm)

After Ayton, there’s a big drop off of talent in centers and none would be much of an upgrade of Peoltl. The PF class is very weak as well.

If they throw a max offer at either Bridges or Ayton to upgrade their team and get a star player, I would think either team would for sure at least need Peoltl to no match the offer, and even he might not be enough.

Not to mention Pop knows how to use and get the most out of a finesse big like Ayton.

I don't know why you expect the Suns to match a max offer if they haven't offered him one and rumors say that the coach feels like Ayton quit on team.

18 May 2022 19:04:35
I don’t know why you expect the Suns to not match Ayton and lose him for nothing. I would bet money Suns would rather offer/ match Ayton than lose him for nothing and become a worse team and no cap to really replace him.

Bridges contract kicks in next season and they max cap space they can have is -$10mil. So let him walk and use a MLE to replace a top 5-7 center in the league?

Agreed with NBA16. From a management perspective, it would be better to match Ayton, send him home for a year, then trade him than it would to not match him.

If anyone actually wants Ayton, they’ll have to pay Phoenix a good asset to get him.

18 May 2022 20:47:53
If it's such a no-brainer, then why not just offer Ayton the extension?

All I am saying is 1 + 1 is not equalling 2 when it comes to the Ayton and the Suns. And when things don't add up, I try not to assume things. For example, "Oh, Phoenix is going to match any offer".

19 May 2022 02:19:21
No matter how they value Ayton, it would be idiotic for any franchise to just let a top 7 center who’s very young go for nothing.

Fredman - one kind of obvious reason the Suns didn’t already give Ayton the max is because they’re not sure that is his market value. If someone signs him to a max offer sheet, that becomes his market value. They don’t want to bid him all the way to the max while bidding against themselves. I wish the Wolves had done the same when it came time to extend Wiggins. It costs the team good will with the player, but it also avoids overpaying.
